What automatic actually means day to day
An automatic movement winds itself from the motion of your wrist. Wear the watch daily and it keeps running; leave it in a drawer for two or three days and it stops, and you wind it by hand or give it a shake and reset the time. The NH35 we use hacks — the seconds hand stops when you pull the crown — so you can set it to the second against your phone. Accuracy behaves like a mechanical watch rather than a quartz one: expect a rate that drifts a few seconds a day, in one direction, consistently. If you want a watch that is never wrong without being touched, buy quartz. If you want a watch that is alive on your wrist, this is the point of an automatic.
Why the NH35 is the right movement for a mod
The NH35 is the movement the modding world settled on for good reasons: it is automatic and hand-windable, it hacks, its date and dial feet layout is supported by a huge range of aftermarket dials, and any watchmaker can service or replace it without ordering proprietary parts. That last point matters more than raw specification. A rare in-house calibre in a €999 custom watch would be a liability in five years; a movement with a global parts supply is not. We fit it with a sapphire exhibition caseback so the rotor is visible rather than hidden.
Living with a mechanical watch
Wind it fully by hand every few days if you rotate watches, keep it away from strong magnets, and remember that these builds are splash resistant only — rain and hand-washing are fine, swimming and showering are not. A mechanical watch does not need coddling, but it does reward regular wear. If a fault comes from our assembly, we replace the watch or provide an appropriate remedy.
